4 years ago, my friend Mic brought me to Da Poetry Lounge at the Greenway Court Theatre on Fairfax. The first night he brought me, I remember that electric feeling of being ALIVE with my creative pulse beating so heavily and reminding me that it still existed. It was still one of my few times seeing spoken word done live but I had simply fell in love, forever.
After a long hectic day at work/school, there is a community of amazing people who join together at this place to simply share, express, educate, inspire, teach and give POSITIVE energy. I have met some of the most talented and creative individuals at this venue and am always inspired by the stories of the people who have the courage to share. And even after months and months of a hiatus, I always seem to find my way back and without fail, am always blessed to hear that poem that I needed to hear just to get me through the week.
This past week, Ethan, Kim and I went, only to be blessed with some of theee most talented spoken word artists in LA to celebrate their 12th Anniversary. Among those that shared were Sekou tha Misfit, the beautiful, Gina Loring, Poetri (Who is currently trying to become a host on the Oprah Winfrey Network! so vote for him!), DefSound, and so much more.
Probably one of my favorite pieces I have ever heard.... about his Father.
Gina Loring singing Redemption Song. :) :) :)
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.
To end,
We cannot be blessed with such talent and TRUTH if our YOUTH aren't given the opportunity to realize their talent and share it. MUSIC, POETRY &ART HEALS.
peace&love.
