Little known fact, I've always had a fascination with gangs, jail, and drug lords. I don't know why, but I've always been interested in how these people started doing what they did, what it was like, and that very day when all that shit just blew up. Maybe because it was a part of life my parents worked really hard to shield me from, that now, I'm dying to know more.
Besides that I like hearing and learning about other people's stories in general. Growing up I wasn't down for the mystery books, science fiction or any of that stuff and was always into non-fiction books. My absolute favorite types of books even now are history books, biographies, memoirs and anthropology related case studies about a random demographic in the world & their problems. And now that I think about it, my favorite types of movies are documentaries and those based on true stories. There is just something about the lives of other people, their rise to success or their road to poverty, that all really intrigue me and want me to understand where these people come from, even if I'll never experience or have to face what they've been through.
Anyway... I meant to write all that because of two films that I want to see which are both documentaries on the lives of people in our society... from gang members to our custodians... check it!
1)An Omar Broadway Film
Omar Broadway, an incarcerated gang member, sneaks a camera (that, I still cannot understand how) into the prison gang unit of Bloods and gives everyone a look at the excessive force and corruption inside prisons.

2) The Philosopher Kings
A Patrick Shen film -- here's the synopsis:
"In search of wisdom found in unlikely places, The Philosopher Kings takes us on a journey through the halls of the most prestigious colleges and universities in America to learn from the staff members who see it all and have been through it all: the custodians. This thought-provoking, feature-length documentary interweaves the untold stories of triumph and tragedy from the members of society who are often disregarded and ignored, and seeks out the kind of wisdom that gets you through the day and the lessons one learns from surviving hard times, lost loves, and shattered dreams.
From the producers of the multiple-award winning Flight from Death, The Philosopher Kings gives us the opportunity to learn from eight incredible individuals whom we would never have otherwise taken a moment out of our day to acknowledge."
"A single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study." ~ Chinese Proverb
