I've given up facebook for finals week but I slowly want to transition into forever! It's seriously such a time waster and something I seriously think takes away from the great things about life. I've been thinking about technology as a whole and how I've really come to loathe it. First of all, it kind of creeps me out how people can keep so many tabs on you, without even knowing you, or even, you wanting them to know that much about you. Not that I am not curious myself, but I have been stopping myself lately and asking myself, "The fuck do I care!?" Right?
Clicks and clicks can lead you to some random persons page who you've seen around but never spoke to, or worse, your boyfriend/girlfriends' exes! Now how weird does it make it when you happen to meet that person and already know who their friends are, what high school they went to, what they did Friday night etc. without even having said a word to them yet?! That's just creepy! I want organic friendships and genuine meetings where people actually TALK, SEE & FEEL Emotions and CONNECT.
How many times has something been misconstrued in a comment/text/message? You really can't understand a person's approach/tone/intention sometimes and it causes really unnecessary drama! And I think the number one thing about it all is how much I think privacy is important in your life. I read on a blog recently and talked with a friend of mine about how instead of LIVING our lives, we talk ABOUT it instead of actually being present in the moment and appreciating it! It's so true! Not to mention, some people really let it all out on twitter, in turn, making me think of some people differently. You know? Those people that get really bold behind their computers and talk a whole lot of shit. Why bother fill our lives with that ? Or people who want to give a play by play of their personal drama for the whole world to see. I feel like people will care LESS about you in asking how you're doing when all they need to see is what you've posted online. that sucks!
The only great things I've found about facebook is the aspect that I can reconnect with old friends from high school who have found me (and even as far back as elementary school!!) and the fact that you can use it as a platform to publicize events and important things that you've been working on. I think I'm slowly going to start changing all my privacy settings and I'm really going to go through my friends and start deleting people I don't even know or remember meeting and only using my facebook/twitter to publicize or share things I think are worth it.
Sounds trivial to some but think about it, how many times do we rush home to look at photos of OURSELVES ? How much do you know about that person whose facebook you always happen to stumble upon WITHOUT even hanging out with them? How many times has looking at your bf/gf's exes page made you ANGRY for no damn reason or made you insecure (DON'T LIIIIE!) Honestly, all this time spent on all the trivial things above kind of make me cringe at myself. So Here's to less tweeting about our lives and more living it!!!
